What is therapy like?

Simply put, therapy is talking with a professional therapist in a way that helps you think about your experience differently. By asking you questions and teaching you some new skills, you will learn to cope with life stress in a more effective way.

I don’t feel like I have a major problem. Can I still benefit from therapy?

Therapy can help people deal with feelings and problems in a more effective manner. Seeing therapy doesn’t mean that you have a “major” problem. Sometimes people benefit from learning some new ways of coping and thinking about everyday stress.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

I do offer sliding scale based on need. This can be discussed during our brief phone consultation.

Does what we talk about in therapy remain confidential?:

Except in cases of physical danger to yourself or someone else, what we talk about in therapy remains confidential. For adolescents, parents/legal guardians have the right to request certain information and this can be discussed during the free phone conversation.

What if I don’t want to talk about something?

Sometimes there are topics that are difficult or uncomfortable to discuss. You are never required or made to talk about something before you’re ready. While we can explore the reasons for not wanting to talk about a certain topic, you will never be forced to do so.
